I try to be conscious as possible about the waste and unnecessary use of plastic I use in our home and day to day lives. I found that the grocery store shopping was one area in my life that needed improvement! I have always been good about bringing reusable bags to pack up the groceries, but I was really going crazy with the plastic produce bags and even some plastic storage bags at home like ziploc etc…. I recently purchased a few items to help me reduce my plastic consumption while shopping and storing food at home. An added benefit of using sustainable options was organization that some of the storage items provide.

Tote Bag

Baggu Bags – I love these baggu bags they are made of 100% ripstop nylon. They are the perfect shopping bag while out and about because they fold up really small about the size of a deck of cards, and incredibly lightweight. I always have a baggu in my handbag and will use these baggu bags at a retail stores that don’t have reusable bags, obviously grocery stores and farmers markets. These are also great for the beach and I always have one on me when traveling to store dirty laundry in!

Stasher Bag

Stasher Bag – I love these! I use them just like I would use a ziploc bag they are made from silicone so once you’re done using them just toss them in the dishwasher! I even have a few I reserve for travel and keep a few travel size toiletries in them as well!

Mason Jar

Mason Jars – I buy the big flats of mason jars at Amazon or Target and use them to store pantry goods like grains, nuts, seeds and spices in bulk.

Produce Bags

Produce Bags- I have raved about these before but these really helped me cut down on plastic! I will buy my produce in these, and store the produce in the bag in the fridge. The best part of these is that you can wash them in dishwasher or washer machine and come out perfectly clean every time!

Let me know if you try any of these tips and tricks for less plastic consumption !
