Oh Fall, how we love thee, your crisp sunny days, fun Fall activities, the ability to just wear a chunky knit sweater and booties around for a few weeks with no jacket. Those first few weeks are pure Fall bliss, but now the heat is on, gloomy days are becoming regular, and we have eaten our body weight in pumpkin and squash dishes. Our once supple, glowing skin is dull, red, dry, irritated and energy is non-existent. Sound Familiar? Sounds like we have a case of the Fall Uglies! A serious diagnoses, that often occurs from you loving your skin and feeling great on a Tuesday and waking up Wednesday; dull, sad and blah. Here are some suggestions and tips, that I like to implement in the Fall and keep up all Winter long to help support my body and during the change of seasons.
Our skin is our biggest organ and basically communicates with us to let us know what’s going on inside the body. Since the goal is to have soft, supple, well hydrated skin, its important to up the hydration from within the body! Fresh green juice is the best way (in my opinion) to achieve maximum hydration within! Fresh Green juice is incredibly alkalizing and soothing. The natural enzymes from the fresh juice will make your skin glow. Another plus about green juice is it really helps with digestion keeping you feeling regular, light and energized.

Basic suggestion, but up your water consumption, most of you are chronically dehydrated. Find some fun ways to drink more water, I personally love the taste of water but you can add lemon, mint or cucumber to your water if that makes it more enjoyable for you! I personally love to drink water out of a water bottle which is horrible for the environment so using these glass water bottles with straws has been a great swap for me!
Vitamins- I up my vitamin d in the Fall and Winter since I spend more time inside and there is more cloud coverage than in the Summer and my main source of vitamin D consumption comes from the sun!
I have also started taking vitamin B12 it’s a fairly hard vitamin to get from a plant based diet since it’s more commonly found in red meat and some fish. I have started taking it daily to help support the nervous system! Read more on the importance of Vitamin B here .
-P.S please consult a Dr. or medical professional if you have more questions on vitamins. I am just suggesting what seems to work for me.
MSM Powder – This supplement is derived from trees and makes hair grow like crazy! So if your hair tends to fall out or get a little weird in the change of the seasons this a great option! I only use it during the change of seasons because it works almost too well!
Shine A Little Light
Get Some Light – As the days get shorter I tend to find my energy low, some people start to suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder). This was actually really common where I grew up in Upstate NY, luckily, I don’t suffer from it but I have family that does! They all recommend this light and I love that it is portable and can be moved to a desk or bedside table. I personally try to get outside every day for a little sunlight for a natural mood booster this time of year!
Get Some movement – For me movement is everything and the thing that boosts my mood and gives me long lasting energy the most in life!! It’s a task so many of us push off, however, I have never regretted a run or workout ever! Another plus to running and walking is it’s totally free so there is no excuse as to why a perfectly healthy human can’t get out and move in the fresh air!
Brush And Soak
Brush and Soak – Dry brushing is one of my favorite self care rituals that I try to practice daily! I especially love it in the Fall/Winter seasons because it gets the blood flowing and heats up any part of the body that feels stagnant and cold. It also is a great daily exfoliator. Once you brush we soak! I actually hate taking a bath, but the benefits are well worth it! I try to take a quick bath about 2-3 times a week for just for 8-10 mins at night. I find that the Epsom salt really conditions my skin and helps soothe aches and sore muscles. Plus I find it really helps with seasonal bloating and water retention which seems to happen to me every Fall and Spring!
Body Work – This year its tricky to go get things like facials and depending on where you live or your personal comfort level with them. I do think that a hydra facial or the bio lift at Rescue Spa is an amazing facial to keep the skin hydrated and plump and clear in the Fall and Winter. I also love a good lymphatic drainage massage to help promote flow and movement in the body.
