I, like most, are probably feeling sad, anxious and confused with the recent events that have unfolded at the Capitol. I reached out to Jules and asked for her suggestion on a book that might lend some perspective or may help make sense of it all. Jules suggested Braving The Wilderness by Brene Brown. This book is a concise and powerful read. I hope you all are able to read or listen to this book and I hope it brings a sense of peace and understanding to you.
Jules Thoughts On Braving The Wilderness
I can’t think of a more timely book for this exact moment in American history than Brene Brown’s Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone. In this book, a former Reese’s Book Club pick, Brene Brown, the best selling “shame” researcher with a very relatable sense of teaching, explores how to both be authentically and uniquely yourself and how to relate to and communicate with others who are different so that we may all belong together as a community and be civil. I first read it in 2017, and reviewed it again this past week, compiling a full blog post of themes, practice pointers, quotes, podcasts and discussion questions to really put her words into practice as we head into a difficult New Year. This one is a real game changer with transformative power for exactly what we are experiencing right now in history.
