Recipe Notes // How To Make

This chocolate cherry nice cream recipe tastes like the beloved Cherry Garcia recipe from Ben And Jerry’s. However, it’s dairy and refined sugar-free and 100% plant-based! You’ll need some frozen bananas, frozen cherries, a good cacao powder like this, and a few cacao nibs. Place all the ingredients into a food processor or vitamix, and in just 10 minutes, you’ll have a rich and creamy chocolate cherry treat!

Recipe FAQ // Chocolate Cherry Nice Cream

What is nice cream made of?

Nice cream is made of frozen bananas whipped in a food processor or a high-speed blender like a Vitamix. This treat is very similar to ice cream in taste and texture. However, nice cream is dairy and sugar-free. You may add different ingredients to create different flavors of nice creams!

Why is it called nice cream?

It’s called nice cream because even though it tastes and looks very similar to traditional ice cream. Nice cream does not contain any dairy or added sugar, making it “nicer” for the body to digest and overall healthier.

Is nice cream healthier than ice cream?

Traditional dairy ice cream is hard to digest, and many people experience inflammation and digestion issues. Atopic allergies like eczema and asthma are exasperated by consuming dairy as well. Nice cream is often only made from bananas and other clean whole food ingredients to create unique flavors. When properly food combined and eaten in the correct food order, bananas can have a gentle and cleaning response in the body.

How long does nice cream last?

Store ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for 2–3 months. It will freeze pretty hard, so I recommend that you let it thaw at room temperature for 20 minutes before scooping

Practice Food Combining

Nice cream is made from a base of bananas and is considered a fruit when practicing food combining. Fruits only combine well with other fruits or greens like spinach, kale, etc. You can add fruits like frozen cherries, berries, or even dried fruit into nice creams to make different flavors. Spirulina powder is nice and adds a fun color if you want to enhance the nutrition of the ice cream. Toppings like cacao nibs and coconut shreds are not ideal but consumed in a minimal amount to garnish the nice cream is acceptable.

Practice Food Order

Ideally, nice cream should be consumed in the morning or early afternoon. Nice cream is every kid’s dream breakfast and my husband’s favorite morning treat! When correctly practicing food order, fruit is always eaten on an empty stomach or followed by green juice and nothing else. This way, the quick-to-digest fruit sugars, and enzymes can make their way through the body swiftly and quickly cleanse and hydrate the body without interfering with any other food that has yet to digest.
